She has been our voice to the board for the past 10 years; now let her be our vote on the board. We are writing this letter to encourage you to vote for Shawn Gladstone who is running for a seat on the Jericho Board of Education in the upcoming election and budget vote May 16, 2006.

We have all worked closely with Shawn for the past ten years. From her four year term as co-President of SEPTA (Special Education PTA), and during her term as president of the Joint Council of PTAs, Shawn has shown time and again her fairness to all, dedication to advocating for all children and her determination to go to any length in order to improve our children's education. She is honest, dependable, candid and is a strong critical thinker. As a former financial and operations principal on Wall Street, she has a keen sense of the intricacies of developing a responsible budget while adhering to state and federal mandates. Shawn is knowledgeable about education law, is an energetic, enthusiastic worker and a creative problem solver. But above all, we have found her to be an excellent listener and communicator who works well with others. We envision her to be a common "thread" between all constituencies involved in the makeup of our school district.

Serving as a SEPTA President and the President of Joint Council of PTA's, Shawn was involved in many issues of concerns on our school's agenda. To name just a few, she would reinforce our belief in her ability to understand the complexity of being a board member. Budgetary concerns, state mandates and assessments tests, hiring of additional social worker and school psychologist, staff development, adherence to IEP goals, quality and quantity of communication with parents, productivity, supervision and expectations of teachers and many more issues relating to running a smooth operation in our school. Shawn possesses the drive to make certain that our children receive the best we can offer. We strongly believe that voting for Shawn Gladstone will ensure a well balanced and strong board where your voice is heard. Shawn will be your fair voice.
