The new school board members in Jericho Mark Basile and Shawn Gladstone.

Jericho residents supported the budget this year by a margin of two to one with 1,254 residents (66 percent) voting in favor and 656 voting against the $89,505,455 budget.

Also, Mark Basile and Shawn Gladstone were elected to the school board, defeating Jeff Bernstein, after two seats were vacated with Ira Checkla and Hilari Cohen not seeking re-election. Basile received 1,304 votes, Gladstone 1,354 and Bernstein 751.

"We are so thrilled at the overwhelming support that the school district received on the budget," said Hank Grishman, superintendent of the Jericho School District. "Special thanks to everyone in the community that worked so hard to get the voters out and to assist us in the two to one budget vote. Congratulations to the two new board members-elect on running a positive, issue-oriented campaign and I am sure they will be become an immediate asset to our community."

Also, voters approved Proposition #2, which will allow the district to sell approximately seven acres of district-owned property, commonly known and referred to as the former Nike Missile Tracking Site, in the Village of Brookville, for approximately $3 million. The property has an assessed value of $2 million. The proposition received 1,312 yes votes and 549 no votes.

The Jericho Library budget also passed with 1,379 residents voting in favor and 469 voting against the 7.91 percent increase.
