The RPT Bombers of the SYAC Junior League finally got the big inning they've been looking for all season, scoring nine runs in the fourth inning as they defeated a determined Top Banana team by a score of 15-3 at Walt Whitman Field on May 9.
Lauren Schwartz was the hitting star with three hits (two doubles) and four RBIs. Sarah Rauchenberger drove in the first two runs of the night (the ultimate game winners) and played a great first base. Dara Metz and Lauren Riegel both had two hits in the big fourth inning, with Dara having two RBI's and Riegel finishing with three hits for the game. Hannah Walcoe had two hits, a key RBI and made some great plays at third. Lilly Mohtadi had two singles and two RBI's. Melanie Capobianco had two hits, and Paige Mandel reached base twice. Carly Ben-Yishay shut down a potential Top Banana rally when the score was still close with a great stab at second. Starr Strassman had two hits, pitched a complete game striking out seven and narrowly missed shutting out Top Banana.
Top Banana played tough except for the fourth. Brianna Palumbo and Elyssa Ditizio pitched and fielded great for the Banana's. Strassman's shutout was spoiled by the big hitting of Jessica Friedman (double), Bailey Donovan (double) and a huge triple by Courtney Kobren in the three run fourth. Palumbo contributed two singles, and Gabriella Galasso also singled in the game.
