Elsie M. VanCott (nee Burkard), of Farmingdale, formerly of the Willistons and Syosset, in her 103rd year, died on June 8, 2006. Wife of the late C.H. Mother of Nancie Baxter and Donald and Eileen VanCott. Grandmother of Rick Baxter, Jeanine Monahan, Cynthia Scrocca, and Deanna Kruse, and her great-grandchildren Sylan, Lauren and Zachary Baxter and Jessica, Joey and Christian Scrocca. Sister of the late Caroline Hewel, Rose Halleran, Marie Neuschaefer and Harriet Pontifex. Survived by three nieces and one nephew. Elsie was the last remaining family member of an early Long Island Settler of the Willistons. Burkard Avenue was named after her father Christopher, who was a farmer and one of the first chiefs of the Mineola Fire Dept. Arrangements were made by McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home, Farmingdale. Religious services were held in the funeral home. Interment Greenfield Cemetery, Hempstead.
