On August 6 and 13, Josh Cohen, a Jericho resident and third-grade teacher in the community, is going to run the ninth annual 3-on-3 Long Island Neighborhood Basketball Classic. This annual double-elimination basketball event is in memory of Jill Adlman, who passed away of a brain tumor at the young age of 15. Jill's parents, Bonnie and Fred, are long time residents of Jericho, and have been actively involved with the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation since its inception.
The Neighborhood Classic has already raised over $57,000 and organizers hope to break $70,000 this year. The event takes place at the newly dedicated Matthew D. Lynch Field (Merry Lane Field). In the case of rain, the tournament will relocate to Jackson Elementary School on Maytime Drive in Jericho.
On August 6, the starting time is 10 a.m. On August 13, the starting time of the tournament is 8 a.m. and at the end of the games, there is a raffle with an assortment of prizes. There is also a free-throw contest for competitors of all ages.
On August 6, the cost to participate is $60 for the entire team (team average must be under 25).
On August 13, the cost to participate is $120 for the entire team (team average must be over 25).
