Syosset's 10 schools are ready for students on opening day, Wednesday, September 6. All students, grades kindergarten through 12, will have a full day of instruction according to the regular school schedule. School calendars have been mailed to all district residents. The calendar includes such important dates as Elementary School Open House on Wednesday, September 13; Middle Schools Open House on Thursday, September 21; and Syosset High School Open House on Thursday, September 28. Dates for all concerts and theater performances can also be found in the calendar, as well as dates when required standardized testing will be held, and of course, all holidays and school closings are listed as well.

The district is welcoming about 50 new faculty members, including two new elementary school principals and a new Syosset Schools athletic director. Patricia Flynn is the new principal of Berry Hill School and Jeffrey I. Kasper is the new principal of Village School. Richard Schaub is the district's new athletic director. Students participating in fall sports are beginning to meet for practice prior to the opening of school. Over 400 students are involved in these sports, which include football, girls volleyball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls cross country, cheerleading, kickline, girls swimming, and girls tennis.

All faculty and staff will be attending conferences and meetings at their schools on Tuesday, September 5.

Bus transportation to and from school will begin for all students on September 6. Notices of bus stops and pick-up times have been mailed to all students. If the notice has not been received by August 31, parents should call the Transportation Department at 364-5840.

"We are looking forward to an exciting and rewarding school year, and hope that everyone has enjoyed their summer," said Superintendent Dr. Carole G. Hankin.
