Mother Nature must love the Nassau County Museum of Art, because she brought the best possible summer morning weather to Roslyn Harbor on the morning of August 13 for the 3rd annual Ohrenstein & Brown Sprint for the Arts, and local runners responded with a bunch of smiling faces and fast times over the 5-kilometer course.
Top finishers from the local area included 51-year-old John Del Maestro of Woodbury, who was the sixth finisher overall and first in the 50-54 age group with a time of 17 minutes, 43 seconds; 34-year-old Mitch Gould of Woodbury, who scored 7th overall and 2nd in the 30-34 age group in 17:56; 33-year-old Constance Mollick, who took top honors in the 30-34 age group in 24:48; and 75-year-old Bert Jablon of Syosset, who earned 2nd place honors in the 75-79 age group in 28:34.
The run was sponsored by the leading Long Island law firm of Ohrenstein & Brown, and managed by the Greater Long Island Running Club, with GLIRC's Bob Mittleman serving as the run director.
The run was conducted entirely on the grounds of the Museum, past some of the more eclectic statuary that is one of the trademarks of the museum grounds. The entire net proceeds of the sprint were dedicated to upkeep and maintenance of the museum. Post race refreshments included ice cream generously donated by Friendly's (Hey, it's never too early in the morning to eat ice cream), and an excellent raffle closed out a very pleasant morning indeed.
