Christopher Nieminski, a 2006 graduate of Syosset High School was awarded the Bobbi Marks Memorial Scholarship by the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) Scholarship Committee.
Nieminski, who has played for the Syosset Soccer Club and the Albertson Soccer Club, will be attending Marist College in the fall. He has played in the Eastern New York Olympic Development Program and was a two-time selection to the Empire State Games, Scholastic Division. A three-sport athlete at Syosset High School (Soccer, Track, and Basketball) he earned an All-conference selection in soccer. He maintained a solid B+ GPA in a demanding college preparatory program of study, taking the most challenging electives. Christopher also served as a volunteer assistant coach for an under-12 girl's soccer team.
The LIJSL Scholarship committee presents 19 scholarships each year to the finest student athletes on Long Island. The league was established in 1966 as a non-profit, educational organization and is one of the largest youth soccer leagues in the United States, with over 95 member clubs representing approximately 70,000 players on Long Island and in Queens. The LIJSL is operated by volunteers committed to enabling young people to Build Character Through Soccer. The league_s mission is to foster the growth and development of youths under the age of 19, at all levels of competition, emphasizing fun, respect and team-building. As an umbrella organization, the league provides a coaching academy, clinics, tournaments, special competitions, scholarships and special programs for players of all abilities.
