Syosset students scored between 10 and 20 points higher on the New York State English Language Assessments (ELA) than the Nassau County average in every grade from three to eight, and were among the top four highest scoring districts in each individual grade, topping the lists for both sixth and eighth grades.

These are the first scores reported for students in grades three, five, six, and seven. In previous years, the ELA was administered only to students in grades four and eight, but all schools were mandated to test grades three through eight beginning in school year 2005-2006.

"We are very pleased that Syosset students have once again demonstrated top skills on state tests," stated Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carole G. Hankin. "Success is ensured by a combination of dedicated and talented teachers and administrators, motivated students, supportive parents, and a board of education that makes excellence in teaching its highest priority."
