The Jericho Varsity Girls Tennis Team reigns supreme once again. After finishing the regular season with an undefeated record of 14-0, the team swept through the county playoffs to improve their record to 16-0. Their 7-0 semifinal shutout win over Garden City was followed by a remarkable 7-0 shutout of Syosset in the finals. This comes as little surprise to the girls who dominated teams all year, outscoring their opponents 98-14 in total points. More impressive is the fact that this is the 2nd consecutive year that Jericho has been crowned Undefeated County Champions under the direction of Coach Colleen O'Connell, improving their unbeaten streak to 32 matches.

This year the team will have the opportunity to play in the 1st annual Long Island Championships at Smithtown West High School. This championship will pit the top 2 Nassau teams against their Suffolk counterparts. The game will be held on November 11, at noon.

Representing Jericho in the New York State Individual Tournament will be some familiar faces. Meg Tyner and Michelle Stracar will be making their 3rd appearance at states after finishing 3rd in Nassau County Doubles Tournament. Lauren Goldstein and Shelby Bates, who finished 2nd in the tournament, will make their first appearance at states. The state tournament will be held in Syracuse, from November 3-6.

The incredible achievements of a team of this caliber would not have been possible without a total group effort. The singles lineup consisted of #1Blair Seideman, #2 Meg Tyner, and #3 Michelle Stracar. Doubles pairings were #1 Lauren Goldstein/Shelby Bates, #2 Melanie Motschwiller/Paige Prefer, #3 Rebecca Gold/Stephanie Taxel, #4 Kelsey Werber/Sydney Werber, #5 Jessica Ken/Gabrielle Cohen, and #6 Jackie Kaplan/Lindsey Steck. Congratulations to all of the players on another outstanding year. Good luck in the Individual State Tournament and Long Island Championships.
