The homicide squad is investigating a fatal car accident that occurred on Oct. 27 at 7:32 p.m. in Syosset.

According to detectives, the decedent, whose name is withheld pending notification of his next of kin, was erratically operating a 1998 Chevrolet pick-up truck eastbound on Route 495, the Long Island Expressway, when, witnesses report, the vehicle crossed three lanes of traffic, sideswiping another vehicle, striking a guardrail and overturning. The victim, partially ejected, was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

Detectives report that alcohol/drugs may have been a contributing factor to the accident. The investigation is ongoing. The Long Island Expressway was closed in the vicinity of the accident for a period of approximately three hours while on-scene investigation was conducted.
