In 2001, Julie Rosenfeld, who lives in Florida, founded On The Rebound, a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to the collection and distribution of new and gently used sports equipment to disadvantaged children. This organization serves the Palm Beach and Broward Counties. In an effort to expand this organization, David and Matthew Weiss, Julie's cousins, were elected to serve as co-presidents of the New York Region of On The Rebound.
David is currently a sophomore at Jericho High School and Matthew is in eighth grade at Jericho Middle School. As a result of an aggressive collection campaign, at the end of December, David and Matthew made their first delivery of sports equipment to the Boys & Girls Club of Oyster Bay.
It is the mission of the charity and David and Matthew's wish to help encourage and enable children to participate in sports, develop personal and social skills and improve their physical and emotional health through sports. They hope to enable all children to play sports, many of whom might not otherwise have access to such opportunities. David and Matthew have also experienced first-hand that giving can be even more gratifying than receiving.
