The Joseph J. Gorman Council Knights of Columbus of Syosset will again be sponsoring a basketball free throw shooting contest at the local level of competition for the year 2007. The date will be Sunday, Jan. 21. It will be held at Saint Edwards the Confessor RC Church's new gym. Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. All boys and girls from 10 to 14 years old before Jan. 1, are invited to participate. All participants will receive a certificate and the first 30 children will receive a special Knights of Columbus patch.
The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually with winners processing through local, district, regional and state competitions. The K of C international headquarters, based on scores for the state level competition, announces international champions. All boys and girls 10 to 14 years, who are eligible, can participate and compete in their respective age divisions, with awards given to first-place winner for girls and boys in their age group. You have to come down and participate at the council competition in order to advance to any other competitions. In the past years, children from the council's competition have advanced to the state finals at West Point Military Academy. Since its beginning, over 2.5 million youths have participated in the annual competition. The Joseph J. Gorman Council encourages all eligible children to come and give it their best shot.
