After getting off the school bus from HB Thompson Middle School on Tuesday, two boys, ages 12 and 13, made a gruesome discovery - they found their parents shot to death in their Syosset home.
According to Det. Lt. Michael Fleming, commander of the homicide squad, an ambulance was dispatched after a 911 call reporting an injured person at a residence on Doone Drive in Syosset. Responding to the call, they found 46-year-old Jaspal Singh and 38-year-old Geeta Singh shot to death. According to Fleming, although nothing has been ruled out at this time, it is not believed to be a murder-suicide case. "We are exploring all options, but this appears to be a double murder," said Fleming.
Fleming said that Geeta was a stay-at-home mom and Jaspal was the manager of a retail business in New York City and also had an interest in a gas station on Long Island.
Due to the fact that the investigation is ongoing, Fleming said no details could be released at this time that may hamper the investigation.
According to Randi Sachs, spokesperson for the Syosset School District, all of the school's counselors and psychologists are available to talk with anyone who needs them. "We also have referrals if parents ask for them and the principal addressed all the students about the sad situation," said Sachs.
The two boys have been placed in the care and custody of relatives. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
