State Audit Finds Wide Variances in Spending of Fire Districts
A State Comptroller's audit of six fire districts found "significant disparities" in the amount of money each spent on travel, inspection dinners and other administrative costs over a nearly two-year period. Auditors found that some of the districts spent significantly more for hotel and food costs for individuals attending conferences than appeared necessary.

Jericho Educational Foundation Donates Little Theater Refurbishment
The Jericho Educational Foundation (JEF) recently presented its first gift to the Jericho Board of Education. The JEF is providing the school district with the necessary funds to refurbish the High School Little Theater. The project will include new woodworking, curtains, carpeting and painting. The work is scheduled to begin during the April recess and continue for approximately four weeks. Before finalizing plans, the JEF reviewed the project with administration and faculty to ensure that all facets of the refurbishment will be appropriate. The board of education unanimously accepted the gift and thanked the JEF for their ongoing efforts.

SYAC Girls Softball Launches Season
All over town, girls took to the softball fields on Monday, April 23, for Opening Night of another great SYAC Girls Softball Season. About 500 players are participating in SYAC Softball, which includes girls from kindergarten through eighth grade.
