April 22 was a beautiful day for baseball and the Syosset Woodbury Yankees travel baseball team had fun but dropped a doubleheader to the East Williston Wildcats 5-0 and 4-3.
In the first game, the Yankees starting pitcher Jonathan Doyle pitched four innings of two hit ball letting up four runs and striking out seven. The Yankees offense, however, was unable to do anything with the Wildcats pitcher who limited the Yankees to two hits, one each by Ian Berg and Tyler Tarnowski. The highlight of the game for the Yankees included a perfectly executed rundown play by captain (for the game) Jason Beck, Ari Chaskes and Tyler Tarnowski in the first inning and catcher Cole Sameroo shutting down another Wildcats rally with a perfect throw to catch a runner attempting to steal second.
In the Night Cap, the Yankees took a 2-1 lead in the first inning on a two run double by Jonathon Doyle. The Wildcats tied the game in the third and went ahead 4-2 in the fourth. In the bottom of the 6th, the Yankees made their move but came up a little short. Tyler Tarnowski led off with a single, Cole Sameroo doubled him home. Matthew Avidon singled Cole to third and stole second to put the tying and winning run in scoring position with no one out, but the Wildcats to their credit shut the Yankees down. The Yankees could not get the runners home and they lost 4-3.
