Police guard the scene where a pedestrian was killed on the tracks in Syosset.

A pedestrian was killed on Jackson Avenue in Syosset after he was hit by a train, Long Island Rail Road officials stated.

According to a witness, the man, whose identity has not yet been revealed by police, was walking south on Jackson Avenue across the tracks when he got stuck. The witness said that he tried to free himself when a train started approaching. The witness stated that the man tried to tuck himself so his body would go under the train without being struck, but his attempts were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Long Island Rail Road, service was delayed on the Port Jefferson Branch between Hicksville and Huntington as a result of a fatality at a grade crossing in Syosset.
