(Editor's Note: The following letter was sent to LIRR President Helena Williams and is being printed here at the author's request.)
RESIDENTS for a More Beautiful Syosset thanks you for your efforts to "close the gap" at the Syosset railroad station.
Upon reading a recent Newsday article, RESIDENTS became aware of a LIRR study to examine the feasibility of moving the current station 1000 feet east of its present location.
Some of our members reside in homes that adjoin or are in close proximity to this portion of track. They live in the area north of the tracks in the "state streets" and in the area to the south of the tracks along Miller Boulevard.
If the station is moved east, the station announcements, whose decibel levels have been troublesome in the past, would become a nightmare for these residents. They are also duly concerned about "the light pollution" of a new station in this location.
RESIDENTS strongly urges you to consider these "quality of life" issues in your investigation of this proposal. If our organization can be of further assistance to you in helping to "close the gap" at Syosset, please do not hesitate to contact us.
