The Syosset Woodbury Yankees swept a doubleheader from the Jericho Cougars winning the first game by the mercy rule 17-0 and winning the night cap 8-0 on a day that included the triumphed return of Cameron Hoo to play against his old school mates from Jericho.
Playing at the Yankee's home park while the Cougars' stadium undergoes renovations, the Yankees got off to a fast start in the top of the first sending 13 hitters to the plate to take a seven run lead before the Cougars came to bat. The Yankees followed that onslaught with three unanswered runs in the second and seven more runs in the fourth to win the game 17 to 0. The offensive explosion was truly a team effort with Captain (for the day) Cameron Hoo reaching base in all four of his at bats, Ian Berg, Ari Chaskes, Dom Caputo, Aiden Albano, Matt Avidon, and Jordan Siff, each reaching base three times, Jonathan Doyle knocking in two runs and Jason Beck and Albano hitting base clearing doubles. Beck pitched a one hit shut out striking out eight and walking one.
In the second game, Doyle and Albano combined to no hit the Cougars in an 8-0 victory. The Yankees scored three runs in the first as a result of hits by Chaskes and Captain (for the game) Albano and a run in the third. The Yankees broke the game open in the fifth when they batted around to score four runs. Berg led off with a single, followed by singles by Beck, Doyle, Caputo, Albano and Hoo. Hoo was on first when the inning ended.
The Syosset Woodbury Yankees split a doubleheader with the Smithtown/StJames Bulls losing the opener 11-2 but winning the nightcap by the mercy rule 13 - 1.
In the first game, the Yankees cruised through three innings and with Jason Beck pitching a no hitter it looked like the Yankees were unbeatable but that's why you have to play the game. In the top of the fourth the first batter walked and moved to second on an error. After a strike out, the next batter hit a shot that Jordan Siff cut off in left centerfield. Siff made a perfect throw to Aiden Albano who fired a strike to catcher Matthew Avidon who applied the tag to cut the runner down at the plate. Then with two outs the roof fell in. After five hits and two more errors, the Bulls score 7 unearned runs and the Yankees' 2-0 lead turned into a 7-2 deficit.
In the second game, Jonathan Doyle pitched a gem allowing one hit while holding the Bulls to one run. In the meantime, the Yankee offense finally broke out of its slump scoring 2 runs in the first and then exploding for 11 runs in the second inning.
In the first inning, Captain (for the game) Ian Berg led off with a walk then promptly stole second and third. Captain (for the first game) Ari Chaskes followed with a double; then Beck singled him home to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.
In the second inning, every Yankee scored at least once in an all out team assault that included Siff's first hit as a Yankee, Peter Meyer's first hit of the season, and hits by Zack Schwartz, Albano, and Doyle. Eleven runs and 15 hits later, the Yankees lead 13 -1 which is how the game ended two innings later.
