I must interrupt the saga of the journey to the Pyramids, etc. to relate this yarn.
Last weekend we railroaded down to Philadelphia, PA to the wedding of our former neighbors. We lived across the street from the Bentley's on the corner of Shultz St. and Marshall Lane in Westbury (Hicksville schools). They had 3 kids (2 boys and a girl) and we had the same proportions.
Last Saturday night Heather Bentley married Billy Hunter at the Ritz Carlton in Philadelphia. What drew the lovely couple together was lacrosse. Heather was a field player and Billy was a goalie. What a beautiful togetherness
There were no lacrosse sticks at the wedding.
Heather's mom, gorgeous and radiant Barbara danced the night away inspiringly. She looked like a teenager. Tessie, Alex and Steve Weinbatt, former neighbors, also added to the happy evening. During the services I was reminded of another wedding scenario about 10 years ago.
Lorraine and I were invited to two weddings on the same night. We decided to attend them both. Chris Bentley, Heather's older brother, was getting married at the Meadowbrook Country Club, right next door to our home at the Hamlet. We will go there first.
We called Barbara and said "Don't set places for the Greenberg's. We will go to the services, then leave for the second wedding." The drinks and hors d'oeuvres were fine and after presenting our gift we left for the other affair.
Unfortunately we arrived at the second wedding in Rockville Centre just after coffee and cake. Actually there was no food to be seen. Lorraine and I were getting a little hungry but people were well fed and dancing. We left after delivering our second wedding gift. It was now almost 1:00 a.m. and we were famished.
I, in my tuxedo and Lorraine in her gorgeous gown hadn't eaten since 6:00 p.m. What to do? Back to Hicksville and the good, old Empire Diner.
As we ate ravenously in our formal attire, I made the observation "We have given over $500 in gifts and we are sitting and eating in a diner. Somehow that doesn't seem fair."
It was a night to remember (or forget)!
