SYAC Girls Softball's spring 2008 season got under way a little late, after rainy skies postponed the season opener, slated for April 28. SYAC has 36 teams in action this spring, in four age categories that range from kindergarten through eighth grade.

In addition to its regular program, SYAC fields four travel teams this spring. Several were in action this past weekend in league play in the softball division of the NJBL.

The Hurricanes, a U10 team, played two competitive games against the Ronkonkoma Cardinals at Syosset Woodbury Park on Sunday, April 27. Also in action was the Thunder, which traveled east for two games against the Holtville Express. The Xtreme, a U14 team, traveled to meet the MVP Mustangs this past weekend. The Storm, the other U10 Travel squad, had a bye.

Tryouts for travel teams for the summer and for the next school year will be held in late May and early June. For more information: www.syacgs.org.
