Republican Assembly Members Seek MTA Oversight Board

The MTA hasn’t exactly earned the trust of the public lately with its recent fair increases and a state bailout plan that includes a payroll tax to help fund the agency’s budget. The distrust of the MTA has also found its way to the state legislature as Republican lawmakers in the Assembly are planning on introducing legislation to create more oversight of the MTA.

The skies finally cleared of dark rain clouds, so persistent in the month of June, to let the sunshine in for the 291 members of the Jericho High School Class of 2009 and their families and friends who gathered together in celebration of the 49th annual Commencement on Sunday, June 28. Students, in a sea of blue and gold, entered the auditorium at the Tilles Center to sounds of Pomp and Circumstance promptly at 9 a.m. After Senior Class Vice President Stacy Stern recited the Pledge and the graduation band played the national anthem, student council co-presidents Jennifer Bell and Jaycee Gruszecki welcomed family and friends to the day’s festivities.

The Syosset Fire Department is reminding residents that fireworks are illegal to own or use by anyone other than licensed professionals in New York State. The Syosset FD also urges families to learn more about the harm that fireworks can cause – both to people and to property.

Rain-Soaked Weekend Ends With Exciting Monday Finish

People holding tickets to Thursday’s rain shortened day of golf were treated to a great finish on Monday. On Thursday, golf was halted after just over three hours of play with half of the players not even teeing off. Those fans with tickets were granted entrance to Monday’s conclusion to see 29-year-old Lucas Glover take the trophy after finishing 4-under par.

Jericho High School Students Distribute Golf Equipment for Charity

David and Matthew Weiss, co-presidents of the NY Region of On The Rebound, recently collected and distributed golf equipment to The First Tee of Nassau County, a program that teaches youngsters the essentials of the game of golf along with life lessons.

David is currently completing his senior year at Jericho High School where Matthew is completing his sophomore year.

 

Town Board Holds Finance Hearing Regarding Jericho Field

At the June 9 Town of Oyster Bay meeting, a finance hearing was held to discuss the acquisition of land for a park in Jericho.

At the hearing, the town board agreed to purchase an approximately three-acre parcel of land to create a park encompassing a multi-purpose playing field with bleachers, playground, concession and bathrooms for the Jericho Park District.
