The National Association for Music Education has designated five Syosset High School students as All-Eastern musicians. In April, the selected students will perform with the 2013 All-Eastern Honors Ensembles, which include a mixed chorus, treble voice chorus, jazz ensemble, concert band and symphony orchestra.
This impressive accomplishment is a true testament to the quality of music education throughout the Syosset Central School District. It is an outstanding accomplishment for the students and an honor for the school and community, as it is rare that five musicians would be selected for All-Eastern from a single high school. Syosset’s commitment to arts education encourages all students to perform to the best of their ability. When they return, the musicians will not only have taken away personal valuable experience, but they will also be able to share their experiences from All-Eastern with their peers in their own school ensembles – something that will benefit all students.
Students in their junior and senior years are selected for this honor by state music educators associations throughout the eastern division based on a ranking system. All recommended students will be participating in their home all-state festival, according to NAfME. Approximately 780 high school students from the eastern region will rehearse for three days, starting April 4, and perform on April 7, 2013 at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts in Hartford, Conn. The Syosset students selected as 2013 NAfME All-Eastern Musicians are as follows:
Justin Bergson, Tenor, All-Eastern Mixed Chorus
Elise Espinosa, Soprano, All-Eastern Mixed Chorus
Emily Garner, Soprano Alternate, All-Eastern Mixed Chorus
Suehyun Jade Park, Oboe, All-Eastern Orchestra
Eric Higashide, Clarinet, All-Eastern Band
