A pancake breakfast fundraiser for ‘Team Nick Portugal’ was held for Syosset seventh grader Nicholas Portugal, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in December, 2012, at Applebees in Huntington Station last week.
Organized by Rachel Corcoran, who recruited members of her U9 Girls Syosset Soccer Club, the breakfast gathered community members such as school board trustees Joshua Lafazan and Robert Gershon, who did everything they could to bring happiness and a sense of hope for the Portugal family.
Carol Portugal, mother of Nicholas, sported a ‘Team Nick Portugal’ t-shirt, as did everyone else at Applebees that morning.
“The entire Syosset community is supporting us as we fight for Nick,” Carol said. “We are so thankful for everyone’s encouragement.”
A raffle was held for various prizes donated by community businesses and residents, including an i-Pad and Kindle. For more information on ‘Team Nick Portugal,’ visit their facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Team-Nick-Portugal/392685624163836.
