Giovanni Graceffa was elected to serve a five-year term as commissioner of the Syosset Fire District. He defeated incumbent Dan Percell, who was running for re-election. Graceffa received 467 votes and Purcell received 124.
Graceffa has been an active member of the Syosset Volunteer Fire Department since 1991. He served as Fire Commissioner from January 1, 2003 through December 31, 2007. Due to professional commitments at the time, he made the difficult decision not to seek re-election at the end of his initial five-year term. With those professional commitments now completed, he will return to his post as Syosset Fire Commissioner starting his five-year term in January, 2010.
“Thank you to all of my supporters who came out and voted and for all of the assistance that I received within the department and from members of the community to get me back on the board,” said Graceffa. “I also want to thank friends that I have on Facebook who offered support. Thanks to everyone who stepped up to the plate and voted. I am glad to be back.”
