Obituary: Lynn deRosa

Evelyn Ebba Lagerstrom deRosa, a longtime resident of Huntington Village, died of natural causes on April 3, 2010 at the age of 89. Lynn was born in Chicago on July 2, 1920.

She lived a rich and rewarding life. Lynn taught art at Syosset High School for 23 years, retiring in 1982. She enjoyed “working with these wonderful young people” and “the joy of working in this incredible school.” Many were touched by Lynn’s encouragement and enthusiasm for art and for life. A longtime member of the Long Island Craft Guild, Lynn crafted in all mediums well into her eighties.

Lynn was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, John de Rosa. They met in 1947 when John, a WWII veteran on the G.I. bill, took a class at the Chicago Art Institute, a class taught by a young Lynn Lagerstrom. Throughout their years together, Lynn and John shared a passion for art. They were very active in the Huntington arts community and operated The Primavera Art Gallery in Huntington since 1981.

Lynn remained in Huntington until 2009, when she moved to Phoenix due to health concerns. She lived the last year of her life in comfort and close to family. Lynn deRosa was kind enough to leave us with a detailed personal memoir.
