Syosset Baseball Association Crowns 2009 Intramural Champs

Despite the continued rain that plagued the spring in the New York area, the 2009 Syosset Baseball Association intramural season finally came to a close with Champions crowned in each of the 9-Senior League Divisions.

Thanks to the field maintenance team headed by board members Larry Meltzer and Bruce Ritter for their continued hard work and crew that they assembled to get all fields ready, willing and able to play in spite of Mother Nature’s rain deluge that we experienced and with everyone’s efforts working fields prior to games, all games were played to their conclusions and champions crowned.

In the 9-year-old Division, the game went into the eighth inning before Camp WeeQuahic and manager Jon Fogelman’s team finished off this nail-bitter as dust approached.

In the 10-year-old Division, team Grassi & Co., CPA’s, lead from start to finish. Managed by Frank Laine, Grassi soundly defeated. IEAH Stables which was the fourth-place team in its Division and had earned the spot in the Championship game by defeating the No. 1 team in their Division, Conti Auto Body and then taking Inter-Reco, the No. 3 team to a 13 inning, 3 day (suspended by darkness twice) marathon win. Grassi & Co., CPA’s had lost only 1 game the entire intramural season. This day was to be no different as Cinderella’s storybook season for IEAH Stables came to a close, with Grassi & Co., CPA’s Championship win.

The AAA Division was won by Schneider Mitola LLP and manager Larry Turrell. Going into the playoffs, all AAA Division teams were advised that Syosset Baseball Association would be having a Family Day at The Long Island Ducks game on Monday, Aug. 31 with the winning AAA Division team to be honored by The Long Island Ducks. Weather permitting, the Long Island Ducks’ honoring of this championship team’s accomplishments will be a pregame ceremony with the team taking the field to join the Long Island Ducks prior to the start of their game.

The major league division game was won by Mitch Wergiles Long Island Hitting Academy team over John Persichilli’s Island Orthodontics.

The junior league division game with Matt-Con managed by Steve Gross defeating Airgate, the first-place team in the Division through the intramural season, managed by Bob Mittleman.

The senior league division game went to AllState Insurance managed by Buddy Rosenblatt, defeating Rob Cassandro’s team sponsored by E-Gen Solar.

The junior and senior league teams respectively were awarded their Runner-up and Championship trophies after their Championship games.

Trophy presentations for the A through Major Divisions will be awarded at Syosset Baseball Association’s annual Awards Dinner to be held at The Crest Hollow Country Club on Monday, November 2.

Congratulations to all our 2009 Intramural Champions!
