For over 10 years, the North Shore Synagogue “Walk-a-Maniacs” have participated in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Great Strides Walk. On May 30, members of the North Shore Synagogue “Walk-a-Maniacs” joined more than 1,500 participants at Hofstra University to enjoy a fun family event and to help raise awareness and critical funds for life saving research, education and care programs for Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a fatal genetic disease. At one of four walk sites on Long Island, the Hofstra group helped raise almost $850,000 collectively. Through this year’s Great Strides Campaign, the CF Foundation hopes to raise $46 million nationally.
Temple Member Ilene Zelniker has been the leader of the team and has inspired members of the temple, as well as family and friends, in planning, fundraising, registration and coordination of events at the walk. Ilene reminds everyone that it’s never too late to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Donations can be sent care of Ilene to North Shore Synagogue, 83 Muttontown Road, Syosset, NY 11791. Please make checks payable to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and specify that your donation is for the Great Strides “Walk-a-Maniacs” team. Donations can also be made at the CF Great Strides website: www.cff.org/great_strides/ilenezelniker.
