To share their love of reading and literacy, 45 Syosset High School football players recently visited the elementary students at Robbins Lane School. The athletes spoke about the importance of strong reading skills, maintaining good grades, and how PRIDE (patience, respect, integrity, dignity and empathy) has helped guide them in school.
Two athletes who read stories demonstrating good character traits visited each classroom. The younger students enthusiastically posed questions about balancing football practice and homework, what it feels like to be part of a team, and how it feels like to win or lose a game.
“The football players taught me that caring about your teammates is just like caring for your own family,” said one second-grade student.
