Hobart College junior Bruce Grant of Syosset was selected the Liberty League Men’s Tennis Performer of the Week after posting a perfect 4-0 record in singles and 2-2 mark in doubles during one week in March.
Grant played at No. 1 singles and paired up with first-year Michael Fields at No. 1 doubles in all four of the Statesmen’s matches on their spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. Grant started the trip defeating his St. Thomas opponent 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), and earned his second win of the day with an 8-3 doubles victory. He rallied to top St. Olaf’s John Wight 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 10-4. Against Centre, he notched a 6-4, 7-5 triumph in singles and posted a 9-8 (7-2) doubles win. Grant also recorded a 6-3, 6-0 win over Carleton’s Avery Rux.
Grant improved to 6-4 at No. 1 singles this season. He is now 4-2 at No. 1 doubles with Fields.
Hobart edged St. Thomas 5-4 on Monday, defeated St. Olaf 6-3 on Tuesday and topped Centre 7-2 on Wednesday. The Statesmen fell to Carleton 6-3 on Thursday to finish their spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. Hobart is now 8-3 overall.
