Register Now For Fall JAA Baseball and Soccer Programs

Due to the community’s desire for an 8-year-old baseball program, the following age group is invited to Jericho Athletic Association (JAA) evaluations scheduled for Friday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 12.

If your child was born between May 1, 2003 through Apr. 30, 2004, he is eligible for this evaluation. Players, based upon their evaluation, may be added to the 9-year-old travel team if roster positions are available. Additionally, for those 8-year-old baseball players who are not offered positions on the 9-year-old travel team, there will be an 8-year-old developmental baseball team that will play in NJBL in the fall and spring.

The JAA travel baseball program has provided the following dates for the fall 2012/spring 2013 team evaluations. The dates will determine which team your son is eligible to try out for. If your child was born between:

-May 1, 2003 thru Apr. 30, 2004: 8-year-old team

-May 1, 2002 thru Apr. 30, 2003: 9-year-old team

-May 1, 2001 thru Apr. 30, 2002: 10-year-old team

-May 1, 2000 thru Apr. 30, 2001: 11-year-old team

-May 1, 1999 thru Apr. 30, 2000: 12-year-old team

-May 1, 1998 thru Apr. 30, 1999: 13-year-old team

The evaluations for teams for children ages 8-11 will be held Friday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 12 at 6 p.m. at Jericho High School Field 4. Evaluations for the 12-year-old team will be held Wednesday, June 13 at 6 p.m. at Jackson Elementary School. Evaluations for the 13-year-old team will take place Thursday, June 14 at 6 p.m. at the Jericho High School 90 foot field.

Players attending evaluations will need to bring a baseball glove, a batting helmet and a baseball bat. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the beginning of evaluations to complete the registration process. Please complete the mandatory registration form that can be found at www.jaasports.org and bring it to the first evaluation. No child will be permitted to try out without this form. Intramural Soccer Registration

Registration for fall 2012 intramural soccer has begun. The fee is $153 for grades one through six and $163 for kindergarten and pre-kindergarten. This fee includes $3 for the JAA AED maintenance program. Registration continues through July 1. Children registered after July 1 cannot be guaranteed a spot on a team; a $75 late fee will be applied to registrations after this date. Placement requests cannot be honored.

The fall intramural season will include a weekly instructional clinic and a weekly game. The kindergarten and pre-K divisions will include a one-hour clinic/game on Sunday mornings. The kindergarten and pre-K divisions will continue into the spring season.

Those interested in coaching can register online as coaches. Individuals who are AED/CPR certified will be given a higher priority. AED/CPR course information is available on the JAA website. Developmental Soccer Registration

The JAA’s Developmental Soccer Program is designed to encourage individual and team soccer development in those children who desire more than what the current JAA intramural program offers via enhanced weekly training sessions, league and tournament play.

Developmental soccer program for kindergarten-third grade will require a one-year commitment. Enhanced soccer training will focus on fundamental soccer skills, and age appropriate endurance training. The child must be willing to devote his/her time, and be willing to participate in a more competitive soccer environment that will be introduced over time. Please note that this is for Jericho school district residents only. You may only register for this program if you have already completed registration for the intramural soccer program—there will be no exceptions.

Teams will be formed equally based upon player “ratings” for kindergarten, first grade and, during the fall season, second grade. Following the fall season, second-grade teams will be formed, on a group-by-group basis, either equally or based upon trainers’ ratings prior to the spring season. Team formation for the spring may, on a group-by-group basis, be based upon player ratings, and will not be equally divided. Third-grade teams will be formed based upon trainer’s ratings prior to the beginning of the fall season. Team formation will be based upon player ratings, and will not be equally divided.

The program features weekly 60-90 minute training sessions with professional soccer trainers. Some teams may have more than one practice. First-, second- and third-grade teams will participate in spring league play, and all teams will participate in fall and spring tournaments. Additional costs per player will apply. Travel Soccer Tryouts

Jericho School District residents are eligible to come be a part of one of the area’s most successful town travel soccer programs. All teams are professionally trained, and all home games are played at the Robbins Lane Turf Field.Tryout procedures:

-Please arrive at tryouts 15 minutes before start times with a drink and soccer ball.

-All players must bring a signed commitment letter, and 1x1 photo.

-All U-10 players (fourth grade in the fall) and new travel players must bring a birth certificate.

-Fee to tryout is $20, which must be paid by cash or check at first tryout.

-All tryout dates are mandatory.

-Returning players are not permitted to wear any part of their travel uniforms.

-Parents will not be allowed to remain on the field during tryouts.

Sunday, June 10 from 5:15 to 6:45 at Seaman Elementary School.

Wednesday, June 13 from 4:30 to 6:00 at Robbins Lane turf field.

Boys U11 (fifth grade in fall) and Girls U12 (sixth grade in fall):

Tuesday, June 12 from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. at Robbins Lane Turf Field.
