The Town of Oyster Bay will host a Soccer Festival on Saturday, Aug. 11 at John J. Burns Town Park in Massapequa. The event will feature the NCAA men’s and women’s soccer forces from Hofstra, Fairleigh Dickinson, Stony Brook and St. John’s Universities.
The NCAA women’s soccer game will begin at 4 p.m. with Hofstra University versus Fairleigh Dickinson University. The NCAA men’s soccer game will begin at 7 p.m. with Stony Brook University squaring off against St. John’s University.
“The festival, featuring NCAA men’s and women’s soccer, will showcase some of the area’s best soccer talent and will make for an entertaining day for the community to watch and enjoy,” Supervisor John Venditto said.
In between the men’s and women’s games, there will be a free youth clinic at 5:30 p.m., where kids can practice soccer techniques and enjoy a barbecue with players and coaches.
“The sport of soccer is one of Long Island’s most popular youth participation activities,” Venditto said. “This festival represents the widespread appeal of the sport. It should be very popular with local residents who enjoy seeing soccer played at a fun, yet competitive, level. We hope to see our community at the games to support our local college teams.”
Admission is free for town residents, but all attendees are encouraged to bring cans of food, which will be donated to Island Harvest to benefit the fight against hunger.
