It was the second week of the season for the Syosset Youth Football and Cheerleading League and all of our teams had a bye this week, due to the holidays, except the seniors. This was the seniors’ first home game this year and they did an amazing job.
The Syosset senior team scored a big 20 to 6 win over the Roosevelt Roughriders. Tight end Ian Greene caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Sean Cerrone. Cerrone also hooked up with Gregory Galligan for the Braves’ third touchdown. Galligan kicked in the extra point for the Braves’ additional two points.
For the second week in a row, the Braves’ offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage. Nick Balos, Jack Randazzo, Michael Verdello, Alec Yacavone, Matt Kahl, Nick Nicolia and Justin Weigold paved the way for the Braves offense.
On defense, the Braves’ secondary - Cerrone, Connor Byrne and Jack Gilbert - pounded the Roughriders’ running game with one big hit after another. The secondary, with the help of DBs Braden Straub and Michael Vassallo also blanketed Roosevelt’s receivers throughout the game. Patrick O’Neill also came through with a big game from his defensive end spot.
Finally, the Braves would like to thank their great cheerleaders, Gina Cavasano, Jessica Hershman, Samantha Acerra, Laura Guerriero, Juliette Lassig, Megan Leahy, Sabrina Bergsten, Nicole Marchese, Kelly Terjesen, Billie Green, Brielle Napoli, and Francesca Marchese, for their outstanding performance. The cheerleaders dressed the field in red, white and black streamers, balloons and signs before the game. They performed an outstanding halftime dance, and cheered enthusiastically throughout the game. The cheerleaders’ boisterous support helped the Braves win a crucial game.
