What happens when you combine great coaching with a team of athletes who have been playing football together for 8+ years? You get the first ever undefeated season for Syosset South Woods Middle School Football Team. The Braves finished their 2009 football season last Saturday with a decisive win over Great Neck North, driving their unbeaten record to 6 - 0. Before Saturday’s game, Head Coach Finnegan reinforced the importance of this final game, reminding the kids about being prepared, concentrating on what’s ahead of them and making Syosset football history. To get to 6-0, Syosset also beat Glen Cove, Westbury, Great Neck South, Friends Academy and Carle Place.
While Syosset certainly has stand out players, kids who consistently made big plays game after game (you know who you are), the Syosset South Woods Middle School Braves achieved their undefeated record by working together, as a team. The 8th grade team consisted of Chris Castoro, Travis Hammer, Tony Cai, Ryan Klobus, Anthony Carcietta, Manraj Singh, Robert Speranza, Justin Napolitano, Minjae Park, John Carroll, Alex Tannenbaum, Daniel Kim, Ben Pollack, Adam Pollack, Alec Yacavone, William Doh, Michael Kaladjian, Nick Ronayne, Paul Schrader, Stephen Ryga, Kiran Muddu and Zachary Schwartz. The 7th grade team consisted of Nicholas Hatzipetrakos, Joey Gewolb, Danny Laberas, Perry Feinstein, Joe Majoy, Jonathan Klobus, Shun Yoshihara, Andrew Pinks, Matthew Bueti, Michael Hatzopolous, Greg Bertrand, Vincent Speranza, Cole Samaroo, Brian Rochford, Derek Napolitano, Jack Parlo, Evan Lowitt, Michael Panvini, Michael Verdello, Guo Wei Sheng, Ishaan Bhola, Jeremy Kaplan, Matthew Zipkowitz, Stephen Burke, Cody Powers, Bryan Ochs, Richie Prestegaard and Abraham Polakunnil.
Here’s to training during the off season to prepare for another undefeated season in 2010.
