Congratulations to Noni Accetturi, Robis DeGirmenci, Bert Jablon, Pamela Lee and Betty Tiska of Syosset, and Shari Klarfeld of Plainview, each of whom was presented with awards at the annual Awards Night of the Greater Long Island Running Club, held in the Auditorium of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library on Tuesday evening, Dec. 15.
Accetturi headed the awards, winning the Club’s Overall Women’s Championship Award for 2009, and DeGirmenci was the Club’s Men’s Silver Award winner. Plainview’s Klarfeld was the Women’s Bronze Award winner and also won one of the coveted “Most Improved” Awards. Jablon took top honors in the 80-84 Age group, winning a Club Age Group award for the tenth year in a row. Lee scored as the Club Champion in the Women’s 55-59 Age Group.
Tiska and Dennis each won one of the Club’s Mary Ann von der Heydt Special Service Awards by virtue of their significant service as a volunteer at Club events over the past several years. “When I think of the word ‘volunteer’, I automatically picture Betty in my mind,” observed Club President Mike Polansky. “She always seems to be the first one at an event and the last one to leave, and she takes on every task with an enthusiasm that is infectious. And my good buddy George Dennis has been an integral part of our Club during most of the thirty years of our existence. Betty and George are a major part of what we are all about!”
