The Syosset Youth Football and Cheerleading League recently announced Community Days on Saturday, April 24 from 9:30 a.m. to noon for 9,10 and 11-year-olds and Saturday, May 8, from 9:30 a.m. to noon for 6-, 7- and 8-year-olds.
Community Days will be held at the turf field in Syosset Woodbury Park. Experienced coaches will conduct a mini clinic, instructing the kids on plays, drills, safety and basic concepts of the game. The kids will be outfitted with pads and helmets and will participate in a mini game. Cheerleaders will learn the fundamentals of cheerleading, a new cheer and basic stunting principles. If the registrant likes it at the end of the session, you can sign up on the spot. If not, there is no obligation.
Those interested in joining the league, just come on down and sign up. Everyone is welcome to come down and sign up, even if you don’t want to participate in the program. For anyone that can’t make it to one of the Community Days, there will be a regular registration on June 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration will be held at the Mansion in Syosset Community Park. Directions for Registration: Syosset Community Park is located on Jericho Turnpike across from the Fox Hollow Inn. When entering the park at the stop sign make a right turn and proceed to the Mansion, the first brick building. Please park in the lot and enter the front door. The offices are located on the third floor.
Please note, there is a new league policy that all football players must be registered by June 5. There will be no exceptions. Children ages 5 to 13 years old are welcome, from all surrounding towns. Registration fees are $175 for football and $100 for cheerleading.
The 2010 season runs from August 1 through the end of November. The Syosset Youth Football and Cheerleading League is a nonprofit organization established to enable children to participate in a recreational football league. The league is fully committed to developing the athletic skills of its team members and to providing an environment that enhances the confidence of its members and instills the values of teamwork and cooperation. The league encourages active participation by all parents. Anyone interested in volunteering, please contact the league.
