Syosset Lacrosse Opens Up Season Strong

The boys third grade lacrosse team opened up the spring season with a strong 8-0 win over Oceanside. Ethan Berch opened the scoring with the first goal of the year off a great assist from Andrew Giovinco. Giovinco assisted again on the second goal of the game by Jack Rooney, one of his four goals on the day. Nicky Carchietta kept the momentum going by scoring on a great move to end the first quarter. Andrew Giovinco scored a goal to get the second quarter started, and the Braves never looked back. After playing an amazing goal in the first half, Christian Lyons came out of the net to get a goal in the third quarter. The midfielders of Dylan Hein, Ryan Lebson, Andrew Bonapace dominated the groundballs all day. The defense led by Matt Majoy, Joseph Cawley, Jacob Katz all played outstandingly well, denying Oceanside time after time.

The boys fourth grade Black lacrosse team got off to a great start in their opening game, defeating a tough Garden City team 6-3. Daniel Ochs got the game started by winning the face-off and assisting to Thomas Goldrick to give the Braves a 1-0 lead only 6 seconds into the game. Liam Kalbacher won the ensuing face-off, raced down field to score unassisted, and the Braves were on their way. After Garden City scored to cut the lead to 2-1 Tommy Rooney scored on a nice pass from Kalbacher to increase the lead to 3-1. Liam Kalbacher scored twice more and Thomas Goldrick added another goal as the Braves defeated one of the perennial lacrosse powerhouses. Goalie Sean Anderson made 10 saves as Garden City struggled to score on him. The defense played outstanding all day led by Stephen Conte, Sal Cresciammani, Shawn Connell, Brandon Brosnahan, Jake Mullin, Teddy Hanakis and Dylan Sapienza. Middies Chris Belmonte, John Babino, Andrew Harris and Thomas Bruefach controlled the middle of the field, scooping up groundballs and running out clears. During the attack led by John Rochford, Dean Marx maintained possession of the ball and played outstanding.

The fourth grade Red lacrosse team won its opening game against Port Washington by a score of 11-6. The team received strong efforts from Dominic Speranza, Brandon Tabakin, Dylan Gefter, JP Lanning, Tyler Parlo, Chris Daugherty, JT Roselle, Jake Needleman, Eli Federer, Brian Dillon, Thomas Markou and the rest of the boys.

Sixth grade Black started the year off with a convincing 11-6 win over a tough West Islip team on Sunday in their home opener. Brandon Feit led the way with a hat trick, while Mac O’Keefe, Lucas Cotler and Kyle DelMaestro each buried 2. Cole Burke and Cameron Biegel chipped in one apiece toward the win as well. Strong midfield play from Luke Walker, James Goldrick, and Michael Elardo helped the team keep possession of the ball all afternoon and made great plays in between the lines. The defense, led by EJ Aronson, Jared Locke, and Greg O’Brien, kept the Lions on lock-down for most of the contest. Congratulations to ALL the boys on their first win of the spring!
