In some cases it takes a village, but in our case it takes a town. It takes the support of everyone who resides within the boundaries of the Syosset Central School District to help raise money for deserving seniors with a financial need pursue a higher education.
Since 1958, the Syosset Council of PTAs and the Syosset Teachers’ Association have jointly sponsored the Syosset Scholarship Fund, Inc. This past June, six seniors were awarded $3000 which will be distributed over a two year period to help offset the cost of college. These scholarships are awarded not only on financial need, but also must have a GPA of 82% or higher and must show that they have participated in school and community service.
Donations are collected throughout the school year. Your tax deductible donation can be mailed to: Syosset Scholarship Fund, Inc., c/o Syosset High School 70 Southwoods Road, Syosset, NY 11791-3200. Scholarships are presented at the high school graduation in June.
More than 11,000 envelopes were stuffed and sorted by many volunteers. Headed by council chair, Marian Dujmovits (South Grove), the following people need to be thanked in order for this to be possible; The students of SHS’s
Community Health classes, the students of Peers As Leaders, Mr. Rich Cafiero, Mr. David Steinberg, Sandi Kroll (VP), Kalpa Ved (Baylis), Gouri Dhupar (Walt Whitman), Jodi Goodman ( Willets), Anna Gurewicz (Robbins Lane), Elodie Cohen (H.B.Thompson), Maryanne Cohen (South Grove), Debbie Gross and Robin Grossman (Syosset High School).
When you receive this scholarship envelope in the mail please don’t toss it aside. Take a moment to open it and make a donation no matter how small or large. As a suggestion, you can make the donation in honor of your favorite teacher or student or even in memory of someone gone from the district or perhaps a bus driver or neighbor. It all adds up. Thank you in advance for your generous support of the Syosset Scholarship Fund. —Syosset School District
