Jackson Elementary School in Jericho recently participated in Bullying Awareness Week. Each day there was a different theme to follow: Monday was Bracelets For Peace and anti-bullying bracelets were distributed; Tuesday was Upstander Day where everyone took an anti-bullying pledge; Wednesday was Laugh It Up Day where students brought in favorite jokes to share with the class; Thursday was Lunch With Someone New Day, where students were seated next to someone they don’t usually sit with at lunchtime; and Friday was You Are Not Alone Day where students all wore blue and gold to show that they will be upstanders and will be there to support each other.
Also during the week, every student signed an anti-bullying pledge and the Peer Leaders (with faculty advisors Melissa Seymour and Stacey Schwartz) made announcements about bullying and being an upstander and teachers taught relevant lessons in their classrooms.
Pictured is Mrs. Bocklet’s second-grade class. They are all wearing blue and gold, Jackson’s school colors, for “You are Not Alone” Day, to symbolize that we are all there to stand up for each other. The students in the first row are showing off their anti-bullying bracelets.
