Senator Dean Skelos Names Rosalie Norton Woman of Distinction

New York State Senator Dean G. Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) honored Rosalie Norton, president of the West Hempstead Civic Association, as a 2009 Woman of Distinction as part of a reception in the Capitol Building in Albany on June 10.

“I am proud to honor Rosalie Norton as my 2009 Woman of Distinction,” said Skelos. “She is a pillar within the community of West Hempstead and has worked tirelessly throughout the years on important education issues as well as continuously working to improve the quality of life the residents have come to expect.”

Rosalie is an exceptional woman dedicated to her family and her community. She is a loving wife, mother of three, and grandmother of seven. Rosalie has devoted much of her time over the years to helping shape the education of her children and the children of West Hempstead through her extensive work as a school board trustee and library trustee and as a leader in the PTA.

Rosalie has been honored with many outstanding awards for her hard work including the Make a Difference Award from the Town of Hempstead, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the West Hempstead School Board, the Service Above Self Award from the West Hempstead Rotary, Assemblyman Tom Alfano’s Woman of Distinction, the West Hempstead Lion’s Robert Uplinger Distinguished Service Award, the Cathedral Gardens Civic Association Neighbor of the Year, Vision Long Island’s Smart Growth award for “Community Leadership” and the American Legion Cathedral Post # 1087 Community Service Award.

“Rosalie now joins other women whose accomplishments within their communities serve as an example to all women. Her dedication to the community of West Hempstead will empower and encourage young women in the future to take an active leadership role in shaping West Hempstead,” said Skelos

The Women of Distinction honors outstanding women from across New York State. This program was created in 1998 to honor New York women who exemplify personal excellence, or whose professional achievements or acts of courage, selflessness, integrity or perseverance serve as an example to all New Yorkers.
