Sunday, December 7

Model Train and Toy Show

St. Vincent's famous model train, toy and doll show will take place on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 1510 De Paul St., Elmont from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door, children under 12 free and senior citizens $4. There is plenty of free parking and breakfast and lunch are available. Future shows will be on Jan. 11, 1998 and Mar. 29, 1998.


Tuesday, December 9

Bus Trip

The East Meadow Public Library has scheduled a bus trip on Tuesday, Dec. 9 to Northlandz, the home of the Great American Railway in Flemington, NJ. It features the greatest collection of indoor miniature trains, mountains, bridges and handcrafted buildings as well as the La Peep Dollhouse, a 94-room mansion with an indoor swimming pool. Lunch will be at the historic Union Hotel. The cost for the trip is $44.25. Tickets are available at the library, 1886 Front St., East Meadow.


Saturday, December 13

Vendors Wanted

Vendors are wanted for the East Meadow Jewish Center's bazaar on Dec. 13 from 7:30-11 p.m. and Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. $50 per day, $75 for two days. Contact the east Meadow Jewish Center at 483-4205.

Chamber Music

The Sea Cliff Chamber Players opens its 28th consecutive season of chamber music concerts with a special Baroque and Mozart holiday concert on Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. For information or to order tickets call 671-6263.

At Hempstead General Hospital

New Beginnings, for individuals past the initial stages of grief. Alzheimer Family Support group, meets every second and fourth Wednesday. The next meeting is Wednesday, Nov. 26. Heart Club meets the third Wednesday of every month at 3:30 p.m. in the board room. The next meeting will be Dec. 17. For information on any of these groups call Winnie Hughes at 560-1231. The hospital is located at 800 Front St., Hempstead.

Islamic Center

Free Tajweed and Quraanic Recitation classes for adults and children are given at the Islamic Center of Long Island, 835 Brush Hollow Road in Westbury, every Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. The lessons are given in the upper back area of the Masjid (Mosque).

Free Health Consultations

The Islamic Center of Long Island is inviting all neighbors who need to consult with a doctor to visit on any Sunday, between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A doctor will be available for consultation purposes only. All are welcome.

Cancer Support Group

The cancer support group meets monthly and focuses on developing skills for coping and creates a support system for those facing the challenges of cancer. The group is professionally facilitated by a cancer survivor who is available during the month to encourage those in need of additional support. The group will meet in the Emma S. Clark Library from 7 to 9 p.m. in the community room on the first Tuesday of every month. The group will meet on the following dates in 1997: Oct. 7; Nov. 4; Dec. 2. The group is free and open to all whose lives have been touched by cancer. For information call 689-5904.
