Jean Paluszek (nee Murphy), 65, of Old Westbury, died on Sept. 1, 1998. She grew up in Astoria. She was the former president of the Wheatley School Parent Teacher Organization in Old Westbury and a volunteer director at Mercy Medical Center. She also co-founded the Wheatley School's summer basketball program for girls. Wife of John. Mother of Michael, Stephen, Patricia, Christopher, Matthew, Julie, Jennifer, Mary Herdoiza and Amy Chambers. Daughter of Jean Murphy. Mother-in-law of Jean, Rudy, Maureen, Jose and Kevan. Grandmother of Olivia, Matthew, Kristen, Katelynn, Abigail, Andres, Martin and Julian. Sister of Catherine Bozzell and the late John Murphy. Arrangements were made by the Roslyn Heights Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Thomas M. Swass, of Westbury, died on Sept. 1, 1998. Husband of the late Mary. Father of Lynn Misita, Patricia Casalaspro, Thomas and Akim. Grandfather of nine. Brother of Russell, Kay Cafaro, Mae Johnson and Olga Heinz. Arrangements were made by the Donohue Funeral Home, Westbury. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Brigid's RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. James D. Hayes, 80, of Southbury, CT, died on Sept. 9, 1998 at the Lutheran Home. He was born May 29, 1918 in Brooklyn son of the late Dennis and Bridget (O'Malley) Hayes. Formerly of Westbury, he moved to Southbury in 1995. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving in Europe with the 9th Infantry Division and was a member of the 9th Infantry Division Association NY Chapter. He retired as an engineering aid for Sperry Corp. of NY and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #1012 in Westbury. He was the husband of Lillian (Newell). Father of Denise M. Forgione of Southbury and Westbury. Brother of Timothy Hayes of Linhurst, NJ. Grandfather of two. Arrangements were made by the Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury. Memorial Mass at St. Brigid's R C Church. Interment Calverton National Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Lutheran Home Memorial Fund, 990 Main St. North, Southbury, CT 06488.
