In 1925, Helen Keller addressed the Lions at their annual International Convention, challenging them to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." John Persich, a member of the East Meadow Lions Club, took this challenge personally.

After an 18 month process, St. Mary's Episcopal Church, one of the oldest buildings in Carle Place, was recently declared an official New York State landmark site by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

Field Hockey Tradition Continues for Frogs
Carle Place High School's Varsity Field Hockey team earned its 14th Section VIII Class "C" Championship in the last 15 years. The 1999 team ended their season with an impressive 15-3-1 overall record, playing some of the strongest teams in Nassau County. Head Coach Claire Iglesias and Assistant Coach Karianne Terino did an outstanding job preparing their team for a vigorous, competitive league season and an opportunity to successfully defend their county title for a second consecutive year.

C.P. Girls' Volleyball Team Earns Section VIII/County Championship
Carle Place High School's varsity girls' volleyball team has once again helped to establish themselves as one of the premier programs in all of Nassau County. This year's team earned another Section VIII/County Championship which represents their sixth in a row. Once a struggling program at Carle Place High School, volleyball is now one of the school's very best.
