(Editor's Note: The following letter was sent to Leon Campo, Records Access Officer of the East Meadow School District and is printed here at the author's request.)
On Jan. 28, 2004, I requested that you provide records of the past six years of evaluations of the superintendent of schools by the East Meadow School Board. On Feb. 3, you denied these records and I appealed to the superintendent of schools. The superintendent also denied this information on Feb. 11.
On Feb. 13, I appealed this matter to Mr. Robert Freeman of the New York State Committee on Open Government. On March 15, Mr. Freeman issued an opinion stating that most parts of the superintendent's evaluations are obtainable under the Freedom of Information Laws.
You sent me a letter requesting that I fill out another Freedom of Information EMSD Form, requesting the information as aforesaid as well as copies of the past six employment contracts between the superintendent and the school district.
I complied with your request on April 5. To date, I have not received the materials. As the Records Assess Officer for the East Meadow School District you are legally bound to release the requested documents in a timely matter. You have failed to do this and that is clearly wrong.
The residents and taxpayers of the East Meadow School District are entitled to this information. I urge you and the East Meadow School Board to comply forthwith and await your expedited response.
