The Wheatley Girls Varsity Basketball team will be led by newly appointed coach Brian McConaghy, a second year teacher at Wheatley. Of the four graduating seniors from last year's squad, three were starters, two of whom led the team in scoring. Last year, the team had a 5-7 league record, an overall record of 10-8 and qualified for the playoffs for the second consecutive year. This year's team will be led by senior Michelle Ritz, an All-Division player last year, and ninth grader Eric Melchione, who was recognized last year by Newsday as one of Long Island's "Young Guns."
