Come down to Post Ave. for a fun filled day of food, free give-aways, music and more. Hundreds of vendors and merchants will line Post Ave., including Dave and Busters, CVS Pharmacy (who will be providing flu shots), a petting zoo, the North Shore Animal League with an Adopt-A-Thon, and the Long Island Aquarium. Artists of all ages are also invited to create chalk artwork as part of a street mosiac along Madison Avenue. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rain date is October 6. The Carle Place Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting a craft sale at the Carle Place Firehouse located on Broadway between Cherry Lane and Rushmore Ave. There will be vendors, crafts, a white elephant sale, raffles and baked goods. Come on out from 10 am. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.
Come out to the “Yes We Can” Community Center to Zumba for a good cause. Admission is $10 and proceeds will benefit the ALS Association. The event is from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at 141 Garden Street in Westbury.

Everyone who has grown a pumpkin – no matter what the size – is encouraged to bring it to the Annual Pumpkin Weigh-Off at Hicks Nurseries Show. In addition to awards for the three heaviest pumpkins, Hicks will also award prizes to the ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Best Pumpkin Grown by A Child’ (under the age of 15). Contestants who need to have their pumpkins unloaded must be at the nursery no later than 10 am. Judging begins at 11 a.m. Weigh-Off prizes are $500 for first place, $300 for second place, $200 for third place and $100 for rookie of the year. Best Pumpkin Grown by a child will win a ribbon and free hayride for their family.
Long Islanders are encouraged to bring in their carved and decorated pumpkins to Hicks Nurseries for the third annual Pumpkin Carving Contest. Registration begins at 1 pm; judging begins promptly at 2 pm. The winner of each category will receive a $20 gift certificate to Hicks Nurseries.
Come out to the Westbury Village Piazza from 2 to 5 p.m. for music, dancing, games and other festivities as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
The Carle Place Civic Association will be hosting its annual Candidates Night Out. Several county and town candidates will discuss their platforms at the Carle Place High School North Cafe at 8 p.m.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Pi Pi Omega and Theta Iota Omega Chapters) will be holding the first Long Island Weight Loss Challenge. At this kickoff event, you can register on your own, or with a team of five. You can also get nutrional, health and exercise information. Registration is $20 per team member, and all proceeds will go to a chairty of the winning team. The Fall Festival at Hicks Nurseries includes hayrides, farm animals, the cider tent, roasted corn, popcorn, fudge apples and autumn flowers. Roasted corn will be sold until Oct. 27. Saturday, Sept. 21 through Sunday, Oct. 31.
