Last week, CNNMoney.com (a division of Money Magazine) released its top 25 “best places for the rich and single” and Westbury made the cut. The central Nassau community not only came in at No. 13 but was also the only Long Island town to rank in when it comes to where young singles should live.
“Those of us who live here know that one of the best parts of living in Westbury is the diversity of cultures and socio-economic groups who live here. Westbury is a great place for single young professionals, but it has always been a great place for people from all backgrounds and means to raise a family and set down roots,” said Westbury Village Mayor Peter Cavallaro.
In compiling the list, factors such as population, age and income level were taken into consideration. Of Westbury’s population of 14,400, some 31.3 percent are single and the median family income is $104,994.
Additionally, the community’s location, along with its proximity from other local hot spots, helped garner Westbury a spot on the list. Westbury, according to CNNMoney.com, is a town “where affluent young professionals are abundant …” It goes on to state that, “in Westbury you’ll find affluent New Yorkers who’ve escaped from city life to the restful idyll of suburban Long Island. World-class restaurants abound in the cluster of nearby villages and towns …”
“I think that many young professionals who work in the city want to put some space between where they work and where they live. Westbury is ideally situated for them, within a very short commute into the city,” said Cavallaro. “Since we are in the middle of Nassau, we are also close to cultural and sporting venues, restaurants and other attractions and activities. We’re able to offer a small-town feel, while being close to the city vibe and the kinds of activities that young professionals want.”
The mayor continued, “With the downtown improvements that we have made over the past several years, Westbury has affordable condos and apartments downtown, close to the railroad, that young professional people find convenient and suitable for their needs. This is really a recognition and affirmation of the ‘smart growth’ concept that we have worked so hard to advance.”
