Obituary: Virginia DeRousse

Virginia “Ginny” Reid DeRousse, wife of the late Kenneth DeRousse, died on Oct. 1, 2010 at Cold Spring Hills, Woodbury. She was born Sept. 1, 1918 to the late Arthur and Nina Reid of High Point, NC. She was the middle child of three daughters, all of whom preceded her in death.

Virginia’s education began in High Point North Carolina public schools. She went on to attend Bennett College in Greensboro, NC. After graduating from Bennett, her first job was teaching and she went on to become a principal.

She married Kenneth DeRousse in 1948 and they resided in Queens. From this union they were blessed with two loving children, Nina and Lane (deceased).

Virginia was a long time members of Brooks Memorial United Methodist Church in Queens where she taught Sunday School and served on many church committees.

After retirement from New York City public schools, she spent time knitting, quilting and doing ceramics. Virginia was a faithful attendee at Rockaway Senior Center in Queens.

Virginia has touched many lives in her lifetime and she will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew and loved her. To savor her memory, she leaves to mourn: a loving daughter, Nina Barnes, Westbury; grandsons, Casey and Lawrence; granddaughters, Codi and Bianca; and a host of family and friends.

Virginia really loved life and she will be truly missed.

Arrangements were made by the Donohue Cecere Funeral Home, Westbury. Service officiated by Rev. James Van Schaick. Interment Pine Lawn Cemetery.
