Residents can be very proud of our Mayor and Village for their “hands on” approach to keeping residents informed day to day of all pertinent issues but especially advising us of recent robberies and burglaries in the neighborhood as well as suspicious activity.
This is similar to the Neighborhood Watch campaign that the Nassau Police Department initiated 40 years ago but the very refreshing difference is that residents have also been cautioned to not overreact or overreport. I would add one caveat to that: When observing suspicious activity, residents should consider whether there is probable cause to believe that a crime is being committed. False reporting can lead to false arrests and lawsuits against those making the reports as well as the Village. Let’s be careful out there; vigilantes are not what is needed.
