Letter: Mayor’s Holiday Season Message

I want to take this opportunity to wish each Westbury resident a very happy and holy holiday season, and a healthy 2013. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or are of any other faith or tradition, the holidays are a time to reflect on the many blessings that we enjoy, both personally and collectively as a community. Let us all take some time to be thankful for these many blessings.

As we celebrate our holy days, let us also remember the servicemen and women who remain in harm’s way and away from their families this holiday season. Let us pray that they may soon be rejoined with their families and loved ones and that 2013 will be a year of peace.

I want to take the opportunity to thank our village employees and staff for their continued dedication, hard work and commitment to the village and its residents.

During these holidays, let us reflect on and be thankful for this special community in which we live. The past several months have shown us that our community is strong and resilient, and can survive in very trying times. The post-storm efforts of our churches, schools, civic groups and other organizations prove that Westbury is a special place. As mayor, I was in a position to witness many private and selfless acts by members of our community to help their neighbors and the community at large. I am humbled and warmed by the charity and generosity that I witnessed. This holiday season brings to me a new sense of thankfulness for being able to live in this community. It also brings to me a renewed sense of purpose to do whatever I can to ensure that Westbury continues to be the strong, special and vibrant place that we love. I hope that during this holiday season, each of my fellow residents reaffirms his or her own commitment to continue to foster the great sense of community and cooperation that distinguishes Westbury from many other communities.

It is an honor and privilege for me to serve as your mayor and I look forward to working with our residents and my colleagues on the village board in the coming year. We have many challenges ahead of us, but I know that our community will continue to grow stronger and enjoy much success.
